We are honored to share the news of the first company to put one of their products on the table for testing, and to openly share those results with consumers. That company is Raised Right Pets, and they make cooked, human grade foods for dogs and cats. They selected their adult turkey recipe as their first product for testing.
Test results, along with interpretations, are listed below. Results are compared to AAFCO standards where those standards exist. AAFCO standards were chosen because most commercial foods are formulated to them, making it easy for the consumer compare various products.
The values listed above are the general analysis. This is similar to what you are used to seeing on the label of a pet food as the guaranteed analysis. For comparison, these are the values you will find on the website and packaging of Raised Right's Adult Turkey formula:
As you can see, the values are very similar -- and slightly better in our product test! Note that fiber and carbs are listed as maximums, so analysis values being below the label is what we are looking for.
Below are the mineral test results. Note that some minerals do not have recommended levels set by AAFCO. In these cases, it is common for those formulating foods to rely on other sources when determining ideal amounts for these nutrients.
Vitamin D results fell comfortably within the AAFCO recommendations.
Fatty acid information is below. Note that for most fatty acids, there is not an AAFCO standard at this time. It is recommended that the omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acid ratio be less than 30:1. Raised Right Adult Turkey ratio was 3.9:1
Amino acid results, including those that AAFCO does not have standards for, are listed below.
Mycotoxins are toxic substances produced by molds or fungi. Mycotoxin producing organisms usually are associated with fungal infection of crops used in making a food. In addition to being negative for mycotoxins, Salmonella and E. coli testing was negative.
DNA analysis was performed confirming turkey as the only meat ingredient in the food.
We are very proud of Raised Right for their willingness to be the first company to submit their product for independent testing, as well as publicly sharing the results. We thank them for allowing consumers to know what's going into their dog's bowl!
